Shihezi University is a university in Shihezi, Xinjiang, founded in April 1996 under the integration of some former institutional colleges by the Ministry of Education and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. It is a national key university.[1] In August 2000, the University was a key University designated by China' s government to be constructed in West China.
Richard McGregor, author of The Party: The Secret World of China's Communist Rulers, said that Shihezi was "a lowly-ranked institution".[2] When He Weifang, a former law professor at Peking University, was forced to take a position at Shihezi instead of one at Zhejiang University, McGregor said this was "a deliberately humiliating transfer, akin to a Harva.The students come from 31 provinces and regions of China. The student population is currently 30,261, including 22,635 undergraduates, 2120 postgraduates for Doctoral Degree and Master Degree. There is also a section of foreign students,doing M.B.B.S. Foreign students mainly from Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea.rd Law School professor being reassigned to a small community college in rural Texas.
